Why Lake Gaston? Lake Gaston is the middle of a chain of three large lakes on the VA/NC border, situated between Kerr/Buggs Island Lake and Roanoke Rapids Lake, with a dam on each end. This unique water control situation helps maintain stable water levels at Lake Gaston, making it is possible to have fixed docks and minimum fluctuation in water levels at +/- 1 foot in either direction. By contrast, the other lakes can gain or lose as much as 5-20 feet in water level overnight! Lake Gaston powers clean hydro-electric power, and is 1.5 times the size of Smith Mountain Lake! Also, being located approximately 3.25 hours south of Northern VA and 1.5 hours south of Richmond, VA, Lake Gaston often experiences an average of 8-12 degrees warmer weather than the Metropolitan DC area, which extends the season at the lake, and warms the water sooner. It is just under 1.5 hours from Raleigh, NC, and Richmond, VA, with day trip options to both as well as nearby historic Clarksville, Virginia's only waterfront town!
