OUR SPOT ON THE LAKE

Our home is located on Great Creek, about 1 mile north of Route 903 in Bracey, VA, at Lake Gaston.

There are restaurants, a lovely winery 3 miles from the house, and other attractions in nearby South Hill, VA and Littleton, NC. Rent a boat, get some ice cream or deli sandwiches at the easy to access marina 1 mile away. Large, quiet cove swimming at the house with a large area for tubing or water skiing right at the cove's entrance. Only 3 minutes to the main lake for even bigger water if you wish to explore! Kayak or canoe up Great Creek and enjoy the scenery. Have fun trying your skills at fishing off the dock! We will be adding more information about rainy day outings, the local winery, farmers' markets and other points of interest soon. Why Lake Gaston? Lake Gaston is the middle of a chain of three large lakes on the VA/NC border, situated between Kerr/Buggs Island Lake and Roanoke Rapids Lake, with a dam on each end. This unique water control situation helps maintain stable water levels at Lake Gaston, making it is possible to have fixed docks and minimum fluctuation in water levels at +/- 1 foot in either direction. By contrast, the other lakes can gain or lose as much as 5-20 feet in water level overnight! Lake Gaston powers clean hydro-electric power, and is 1.5 times the size of Smith Mountain Lake! Also, being located approximately 3.25 hours south of Northern VA and 1.5 hours south of Richmond, VA, Lake Gaston often experiences an average of 8-12 degrees warmer weather than the Metropolitan DC area, which extends the season at the lake, and warms the water sooner. It is just under 1.5 hours from Raleigh, NC, and Richmond, VA, with day trip options to both as well as nearby historic Clarksville, Virginia's only waterfront town!
